About the artists:

Rachel “Raych” Jackson is a writer, educator and performer. While teaching in Chicago Public Schools for five years, she competed on numerous national poetry teams and individual competitions. She is the 2017 NUPIC Champion and a 2017 Pink Door fellow.

Rachel recently voiced ‘DJ Raych’ in the game Mad Verse City. In October 2018 her latest play, Emotions and Bots, premiered at the Woerdz Festival in Lucerne Switzerland. She co-created the monthly poetry show Big Kid Slam. Rachel’s work has been published by many—including Poetry Magazine, The Rumpus, and 29Rooms through Refinery29. She is working on her first collection of poems in Chicago and proudly loves every episode of Bob’s Burgers.

Donte has shared the stage with some of today’s most acclaimed poets. Donte’s first poem was published when he was 16 years old and he has since gained national recognition. He served as an editor at Button Poetry and studied English and Theater at Augsburg College. He resides in Saint Paul, Minnesota, where he hibernates during the winter and seriously considers purchasing a warmer yet less fashionable jacket.

TaneshaNicole is a Black queer non-binary poet living in the Twin Cities, MN by way of Salt Lake City, UT. They are a Pisces and it shows. TaneshaNicole has represented venues in national competitions such as CUPSI IWPS, WOWPS, and most recently NPS where they placed 4th overall with their team. Currently, Tanesha works in hospitality and serves as Button Poetry’s Live Events Coordinator. In their spare time they can be found browsing for the perfect cat to bring home. Their work has appeared or is forthcoming in Button Poetry, SLCC Bruin Voices Series, Write About Now, TEDx, Voicemail Poems, peculiar, Ink&Nebula, Prickly Pear Printing, and more.

TIM “TOASTER” HENDERSON is an artist, organizer, and educator from Chicago’s north side.He is a four-time Louder Than A Bomb finalist, a Golden State Slam Finalist, and a Bay Area Unified Slam finalist. His work has appeared on stages ranging from the Metro to Victory Gardens and the Vic, as well as in a variety of literary magazines and anthologies. His chapbook, “Floating Heads,” was published by Watch the Steps Press.

About Brenna Twohy: Brenna Twohy is a storyteller and an advocate from Portland, Oregon. Her poetry has been showcased on The Huffington Post, BuzzFeed, Mic, and her mother’s living room table. After representing Portland at the 2013, 2014, and 2016 National Poetry Slams, Brenna moved to Ann Arbor, Michigan. She is currently in her final year of law school, where she focuses on criminal justice reform and holistic defense work. She really wants you to go to jury duty.

About the artist:

Kevin Kantor is a genderqueer, non-binary spoken word poet, theatre director, actor, teaching artist and agent for social change working to deconstruct and reimagine the semiotics of gender on stage and in performance. They are the founder & former artistic director of Greeley, Colorado’s SOAPbox Productions, a theatre company & poetry venue dedicated to furthering conversations that are politically engaged & culturally conscious through live performance art.

Kevin has toured nationally with their poetry, performing & leading workshops at colleges & universities across the country. Their collective work has garnered over 17 million online views.

Kevin's writing, which aims to subvert toxic masculinity, explore survivorship & trauma, & raise queer voices, has been featured on The Huffington Post, Buzzfeed, Upworthy, & in the anthology We Believe You: Survivors of Campus Sexual Assault Speak Out (Holt Paperback). Kevin also worked as a content supervisor and contributor for the second season of John Ridley’s ABC drama American Crime and was featured alongside Lady Gaga at her 2016 Oscars Performance.
